Who I am

I was born in Swansea, Wales in 1978.

I have a B.A.(Hons) in English Literature and Hispanic Studies from the University of Birmingham, and an M.Phil. in Hispanic Studies from the same institution, for which I wrote a research thesis about the Cuban novelist José Lezama Lima’s 1966 novel Paradiso. It’s unlikely you’d want to read it. The thesis, not the novel, though that’s fairly improbable too. But if you did want to I’d be happy to send you a copy. Of the thesis. You’d have to buy the novel.

Since moving to Birmingham I’ve worked as a teacher and photographer, amongst other things. I’ve also lived in Cuba and Syria. I speak Spanish fluently when I’ve warmed up, French well, and Portuguese and Italian after a fashion, filling in the gaps with improvisations based on the other romance languages. I speak very basic Syrian colloquial Arabic.

I ride a bike a lot, and am currently working towards a Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design.
